ABOUT
JOE HATHAWAY
Born and raised in a middle-class family in Clifton, New Jersey, Joe has always believed hard work and respect for others are the only path to achieving anything worthwhile. This principle has guided Joe from his days on the collegiate gridiron as a Yale University Football player, to his professional career in government and business, and into public service in Randolph, where he has served residents since joining the Township Council in May 2022 and serving as Mayor in 2025.
As Mayor of Randolph, Joe made every day count, delivering meaningful progress for families, seniors, and local businesses. He successfully negotiated the township’s fourth-round affordable housing settlement, reducing the state-mandated obligation by 92 percent while protecting schools, infrastructure, and local decision-making. Under his leadership, Randolph resurfaced 28 roads, advanced Route 10 intersection improvements with NJDOT, extended critical water mains, restored full police staffing, deployed body-worn cameras, and strengthened cybersecurity. The township also welcomed more than two dozen new businesses, invested in parks and recreation, and delivered over $1.1 million in taxpayer savings.
Joe graduated from Yale University in 2009, majoring in Political Science. He also played varsity football, earning All-Ivy League honors. Professionally, Joe has spent over a decade in Corporate Affairs and Communications in both public and private sectors. He has managed executive communications and operations in healthcare and financial services. Joe began his career in state government as an Advance aide to former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
A lifelong New Jersey resident, Joe attended Clifton High School, where he captained the football and track teams. He was inducted into the Clifton High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2015. Prior to joining Council, Joe served on the Randolph Recreation Advisory Committee and remains active in the Yale Football Alumni Association. Joe continues to live in Randolph with his wife Whitney and their three young children: James, Elle, and Eula.
